Sisters, Or., Over the Santiam Pass, Lunch Near Detroit Lake, Or.
Left Bend, Or. and drove to Sisters, Or. Wanted to see the Sisters Mountain Peaks and the small town of Sisters. Couldn’t see the Three Sisters Mountains due to cloud cover. The little town of Sisters other claim to fame is their annual Quilt Show in July. Some quilts were on display and they were beautiful to look at and beautifully made.
From Sisters we went through the Deschutes National Forest and over the Santiam Pass. There were warnings along the road that you must be carrying chains or have “traction tires”. We had neither of these but were assured by the woman at the Sisters Chamber of Commerce that the roads were clear and would be for several hours. Glad she was right!
Now we are just northwest of Detroit…No, not THAT Detroit. Detroit, Or. We stopped in a lovely place to have lunch and take a driving break.
- The Three Sisters Mountain Peaks are out there in the clouds somewhere.
- Town of Sisters, Or. Known for the Three Sisters volcanic peaks of the Cascade Mountains. We couldn’t see them through their cloud shroud but saw lots of pictures of them.
- Pretty Sisters Plaque.
- Every July, Sisters, Or. holds the largest outdoor quilt show in the world. Showing 1000+ quilts.
- Beautiful quilts in Sisters, Or.
- No snow before getting to the Santiam Pass.
- Washington point in Deschutes National Forest west of Sisters. Notice all the burned trees from the 2003 fire. It burned 140 sq. miles!
- Lots of snow at the 4817′ Santiam Pass northwest of Sisters, Or.
- The Detroit, Or. River
- Detroit Lake, Or.
- Stopped for lunch in this lovely area with Detroit Lake, Or. across the street and this little stream outside our dinette window.
