Salem, Oregon

We spent the night in a Walmart parking lot in Salem, Or.  The Walmart manager said they do not allow RVs to overnight there but if we were only staying one night it would be fine with her.  Guess we looked tired as it was late when we arrived there.  She took our name, RV lic. number and type of RV and said she would alert security that we were OK.  Thanks.  It was very quiet there and, sure enough, we were the only RV in the parking lot when we woke up this morning.  She said some folks had taken advantage of Walmart’s generous free parking policy there.  Too bad, a small number of people can really ruin things for the rest of the RVers.

After a quick breakfast and showers we spent the morning at the Oregon State Capitol area.  Very nice.  Met some fellow travelers from Washington state.  They, too, like to see the state capitol buildings.  It’s a sunny day today with blue skies and lots of flowers in bloom.  During week days there are free tours of the capitol building  (no tours of the building on the weekends) but just the building itself and the grounds are lovely.

Saw gas in Salem for as low as $3.89, that is the lowest price we’ve seen for the past 1400+ miles.  Temp today in the high 60′s and sunny.   This morning in Salem we awoke to a temp of 39 F.

We are headed to Portland to spend the rest of the day with Jerry’s niece.  We will boondock in the Portland Elks parking lot.
