Boondock–
Our overnight site is a large, level, picnic area in the Chugach National Forest. It’s lovely and quiet here and best of all it’s free. Since it is raining and the temp. is hoovering around 48 degrees F. we have the place to ourselves. Hoping to see a moose or a bear wonder within our sights but we’re content with the beautiful views. We’ve seen all kinds of birds and a fast moving bunny so far today. Glad our motor home has the surround windows in the living room in the back of the RV with a tint on the windows so wildlife can not see us and be spooked but we can easily observe them. With good luck, when I cook the salmon tonight, a bear will not want to come in and join us. We’d like to see a bear but not invite one to dinner. We’re parked next to a little pond with views of the mountains and woods. Clearly, we’re not the first to camp here with the evidence of previous campers being a small, homemade, rock-surround campfire pit. It is beautiful and peaceful place and we’ve decided to celebrate Independence Day by spending a quiet, lazy day here. Speaking of lazy days, it is warm and toasty in our Lazy Daze motor home and our Mellenicom WiFi gets excellent Internet reception. Will plan to stay here tonight.
Independence Day–
Wishing everyone a wonderful day of celebration and remembrance of our history. We’ve been listening to NPR most of the morning and thinking about all the generations that came before us; building, exploring and defending this big, diverse, beautiful country. All of us, lucky enough to call the USA home know that today is a very good day to celebrate. A big THANK YOU for your service to those who have or are now serving our country in the military.
Travel through Alaska plans–
Making today a “no driving day” is probably safer than being on the road and we hope everyone out there is staying safe. Still have Wrangell/Saint Elias National Park to see, Valdez and Prince William Sound, Skagway, Hyder and all the many wonderful places along the way. Tomorrow we’ll resume our travels through Alaska.
