Dosewallips State Park, Olympic Peninsula, Washington

Spent yesterday evening exploring the park.  Met a Ranger who directed us to the “viewing platform” near the beach.  We looked for seals in the Hood Canal and birds of pray from the platform.  No luck but enjoyed a couple of miles of walking through part of the park.  This is clamming and oyster season and folks around here take that seriously.  Clams and oysters are big business here as well as sport.
The Small Town of Brinnon
Walked out of the park to Brinnon.  We’d been told by a fellow camper that there was a water fall that sounded interesting.  We asked directions and started walking.  We were pleasantly surprised by how friendly the folks in this town seem to be.  They waved, smiled and if they were within hearing distance, they spoke to us.  Along the walk to the falls we met Joe.  Joe owns a beautiful piece of land that he plans to use as a commercial wedding venue.  The flowering trees and plants (rhododendrons and camellias mostly) there are spectacular.  Both our daughters had outside weddings so we could easily see the business potential.
Rocky Brook Falls
As we walked along the road the three plus miles to the Rocky Brook Falls, we talked of what we expected to see.  There were lots of little falls running down to creeks, brooks and a river along the way.  We concluded the falls would likely be bigger than the little falls we saw along the way but… Wow!  What a surprise.  The Rocky Brook Falls, about 150 yards off the road, was huge.  185′ of tumbling fresh water, throwing a spray that encouraged greenery to grow up the adjacent hillsides.  Two miles into our walk back to the Lazy Daze a light rain started to fall.   Joe, the nice business man we’d met a few hours before, road up in his truck and took us back to the campground.  He likely saved us from a drenching.  Thanks, Joe.
